About Me

My photo
I'm a writer turned stay-at-home mom to the most wonderful little boy in the world. Two years ago, our son was diagnosed with Congenital Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy; I was diagnosed with the adult-onset version shortly thereafter. Though marked by a miniscule genetic flaw, our family's story is still much like everyone else's--always loving, oftentimes comical, and sometimes heart-breaking. But there are a million wonderful, funny moments to temper the few bad ones. This is not a "woe-is-us" blog full of sadness. It's a place to read about the adventures of a mom and her music-milkshake-cars-animals-grandparents-popcorn-playground-pool-lovin' son, the joy we find in the everyday, and the blessings that a certain little blue-eyed boy has brought to so many people. And it's a reminder to enjoy the feel of your toes in the grass.

Water, water, everywhere

So I'm pretty sure the last 38 people who checked this blog (call me a narcissistic nerd; I broke down and signed up for a tracker but can't figure out how to display it) thought I'd fallen off the planet, but not quite. Instead, we took a mini-vacation down to French Lick last week, which is only on the outermost edges of the planet. (As in, no Wendy's. No McDonald's. Scary stuff for a 3-year-old--and his parents--to deal with.)

But it's safe to say the trip's main attraction was worth allowing Evan to subsist on goldfish crackers, juice boxes, fruit snacks, and one slice of pizza. Two words: WATER PARK. (Or is that one word?) Either way, a few shots from what now feels like a feather of a camera.

They call it Big Splash Adventure, I call it a 3-year-old's paradise.

For all the physical therapy Evan got in 8 hours of kicking, walking, and trying to swim in the lazy river, we should just build a moat around the house.

All it took was one little shove, and he never went down with either of us after that.

"Bye, Mommy! See you at the bottom!"

And a parting shot, just in case you don't think he really enjoyed it all that much:

Does it mean I'm a terrible mom if this photo makes me smile? :)
