About Me

My photo
I'm a writer turned stay-at-home mom to the most wonderful little boy in the world. Two years ago, our son was diagnosed with Congenital Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy; I was diagnosed with the adult-onset version shortly thereafter. Though marked by a miniscule genetic flaw, our family's story is still much like everyone else's--always loving, oftentimes comical, and sometimes heart-breaking. But there are a million wonderful, funny moments to temper the few bad ones. This is not a "woe-is-us" blog full of sadness. It's a place to read about the adventures of a mom and her music-milkshake-cars-animals-grandparents-popcorn-playground-pool-lovin' son, the joy we find in the everyday, and the blessings that a certain little blue-eyed boy has brought to so many people. And it's a reminder to enjoy the feel of your toes in the grass.

The guy who...

Six years ago today, I married a guy who was wearing exactly what I was wearing (brown sweater, dark jeans, brown shoes) when we met. Who shared my love of The Andy Griffith Show. Who didn't break up with me on the spot after I followed suit and also ordered No. 66 on a menu of 90 Thai entrees on our first date. Who shoved a snowball in my face on our second date, said my lips looked cold, and then kissed me. Who introduced me to the awesomeness that is Dwight Yoakam. Who pushed me out the door the morning of the interview that landed me my magazine internship, when I was scared to death and almost didn't go. Who gave me another chance after I broke up with him the week before his first law school finals. Who always told me he "might propose in 2011..."

...then proposed to me in 2003 when I looked like something the cat had sucked on for three days.

Who took me on the honeymoon of a lifetime.

Who gave me the best job title ever.

Who wore his 12-(now 15-)year-old 5K/fish fry t-shirt to Evan's birth. Who walked in the door from work the day Evan got his first pair of orthotics, and immediately told our precious little boy how awesome they looked, and how they were going to help turn him into a soccer star. Who has become the Frank Lloyd Wright of train track architecture.

Who has been an even better dad than I knew he'd be.

Who dances with me at weddings and in the living room.

Who still makes my ♥ flip.

And tonight, who took us out for ice cream and a game of soccer.

Here's to the start of Year 7, which I'm predicting will be even better than the last six combined.
Lucky me!
